(Betula Pendula)
The birch is probably the most common of Britain’s native broad-leaved trees.
Known for its silvery white bark that sheds layers, the bark is actually waterproof and can even be used as a roofing material!
Birch has a high conservation value as its light, open canopy can help ground flora to prosper. It can tolerate exposed, cold locations and prefers full sun and dryer sandy soils.
Other uses for this versatile plant include wine made from the sap and the bark can be used for tanning.
Supplied as a pot grown plant.
